Sky King Fireworks of South Bend is seeking a driven, self-motivated Retail Store Manager to lead day-to-day operations of our South Bend, Indiana location. This opportunity is available as either a full-time, year-round position or a seasonal management role, depending on the candidate’s preference and availability.

This role operates with a high level of independence and decision-making authority. During the off-season, the manager will often work independently and must be comfortable managing the store, facility, and daily priorities on their own.

Commitments, Challenges & Work Environment

Our operations are fast-paced and highly seasonal, requiring adaptability and energy. This is a physically active role involving walking, standing, bending, lifting, and frequent movement throughout the store and warehouse.

Flexibility is required, including mornings, nights, weekends, and significant overtime during peak seasons. Year-round managers should expect to work independently during off-season periods, managing daily tasks, maintenance, and administrative responsibilities.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • 3+ years of retail experience

  • 4+ years of management experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage operations without direct supervision

  • Ability to effectively manage a large team during peak seasons and work independently during the off-season

  • Strong cash handling and cash control experience

  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to perform well under pressure in a high-energy environment

  • Experience planning, coordinating, and supervising the work of others

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, and lift 25–50 lbs for extended periods

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Successful completion of credit and criminal background checks

Availability Requirements:

  • Weekends, holidays, and peak sales seasons required

  • Mandatory work dates: June 24 – July 5 and December 26 – January 2

  • Estimated 250–300 overtime hours annually for year-round managers


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead store operations with a focus on execution, sales, and customer service

  • Recruit, hire, schedule, train, and develop staff for peak seasons

  • Set expectations, hold team members accountable, and lead by example

  • Work independently during off-season periods to manage daily operations, facility upkeep, and administrative responsibilities (year-round role)

  • Take ownership of overall building and property upkeep, including cleanliness, organization, and basic facility maintenance

  • Proactively identify repair, safety, or maintenance needs and coordinate solutions or vendors as necessary

  • Oversee inbound freight, unloading delivery trucks, and warehouse inventory management

  • Ensure merchandising, signage, and overall store presentation meet company standards

  • Accurately process transactions, oversee cash handling, and record daily sales

  • Enforce all company policies and procedures consistently

  • Climb ladders to stock products and install or remove signage

  • Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements without waiting for direction

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management


Compensation & Benefits

Compensation and benefits will vary based on year-round vs. seasonal placement.

  • Hourly Pay: $22.00 – $27.00

  • Estimated Annual Earnings (Year-Round, with overtime): $52,500 – $65,500

  • Health insurance after 90 days (year-round role)

  • Paid time off (year-round role)
